Much has been made of today being "Back to the Future Day." Having
traveled to 1955 in the original Back to the Future, October 21, 2015 was the
day in the future at which Marty McFly arrived in Back to the Future 2. What I
want to point out though is something that hasn't received a lot of attention.
In the very same movie, Marty and Doc Brown take a trip back to 1985, find
out that things have been REALLY messed up by their time traveling, and ultimately head back to 1955 again to fix everything.
In the scene where they are getting ready to jump back to 1955, Marty is
worried what will happen to his girlfriend and Doc's dog if they jump without
them. The following dialogue takes place:
Doc: “Don’t worry, Marty. Assuming we succeed in our mission, this alternate
1985 will be changed back into the real 1985, instantaneously transforming
around Jennifer and Einie. Jennifer and Einie will be fine, and they will
absolutely no memory of this horrible place.”
Marty: “Doc, what if we don’t succeed?”
Doc: “We must succeed!”
Now I don't remember all the details of the movie, but I can only assume
that this mission they were going on, endeavoring to fix "this horrible
place," was directly related to the infamous blown call by Don Denkinger
that had happened only hours before, late the night of October 26, 1985.
Now the question is, why would they head back to November 12, 1955 to fix things? I'm not exactly sure, but Jack Clark (who made the ill-fated throw to Todd
Worrell) was born just two days earlier. Hmmmmmmm...
